The shutdowns helped send nuclear-power output to its lowest level since 2003, according to an analysis by Bloomberg.
Three nuclear power reactors were shut down and another plant was put on special alert due to power disruptions and flooding from Sandy, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission said Tuesday.
The shutdowns, combined with maintenance and other issues at more than two dozen plants, sent U.S. nuclear-power output to its lowest level since 2003, according to an analysis by Bloomberg.
Generation nationwide declined to 69,640 megawatts, or 68% of capacity, the biggest slide since Aug. 15, 2003, according to Bloomberg’s review of NRC data. Output was 17% lower than a year ago, with 28 of 104 nuclear reactors offline.
