WOODRUFF, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Agents with the State Law Enforcement Division are investigating the shooting of a pregnant woman by a Woodruff police officer Thursday afternoon.
The shooting happened about 1:40 p.m. near the intersection of Jamie’s Creek Drive and McArthur Street.
According to the incident report from the Woodruff Police Department, an officer was performing a traffic stop when a man fled on foot. The report also says the woman that was in the car tried to run over the officer, forcing the officer to fire back.
Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said Thursday night that 28-year-old Lacey Lamb died as a result of a gunshot wound suffered in that incident. He said Lamb was 21 weeks pregnant. Her baby did not survive, he said.
The man involved, who hasn’t yet been identified, was eventually placed into custody, according to the SLED spokesman.
