Have you heard about the new movie, Obama’s America: 2016, that is now in theaters, because it just catapulted into the number four spot at the box office, making $2.3 million on Friday night with an expectation of almost $6 million over the weekend. Even more surprising is that the movie was shown in “2/3 fewer theaters across North America than the other wide release actioners,” according to Deadline.com, but is now in “wider release” and being played in about 1/3 of the theaters as The Expendables 2, the top grossing movie.
The movie is based on Dinesh D’Souza’s NY Times bestselling book, The Roots of Obama’s Rage, co-directed by D’Souza and John Sullivan, and produced by Academy Award winner Gerald R. Molen (think Schindler’s List.) Deadline.com says “Its success comes because of savvy marketing on the eve of the Republican National Convention.”
