Chick-Fil-A Is Blowing Up – FITSNEWS.COM

TREAT YOURSELF, SOUTH CAROLINA!

I didn’t eat at Chick-Fil-A today …

Why not?  Because both my metabolism and capacity for restraint aren’t up for it.  Also, my state’snew health czar wouldn’t approve.  My kids did eat Chick-Fil-A today, though, along with what appears to be everybody else in America.

What’s the deal?  It’s “Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day,” which apparently has something to do with the firestorm created by the company’s recent expression of its views on social issues (and the far left’s reactionary response).  My website has already taken a position on this issue …

If you want to be gay, be gay … if you don’t, don’t.  Same goes for eating chicken sandwiches.  The government should have nothing to do with condoning or assailing either choice.

In other words, let the marketplace sort it out.

The only problem?  Some municipal leaders – like the mayors of Boston and Chicago, for example – are attempting to freeze Chick-Fil-A out of their cities as a result of its company executives exercising their First Amendment rights.

That’s revolting … and it’s what has prompted the outpouring of public support for the fast food chain.

“It’s a Great Day for Chick Fil-A in Aiken!” S.C. Rep. Bill Taylor wrote on his Facebook page. “The silent MAJORITY is speaking loudly on behalf of free speech and free enterprise.”

Taylor included a pic, too …

In fact, pics from various jam-packed Chick-Fil-A restaurants have been popping up all over the place  … including this one from a friend of mine in Florence, S.C. (thanks, Renee!) …

U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan also got into the Chick-Fil-A spirit, saying that “supporting the First Amendment never tasted so good.”

Even my wife – the lovely Mrs. Sic Willie – participated in Chick-Fil-A day, although as mentioned earlier she didn’t bring me back anything (like I said, I’ve got no self control when it comes to my love of such plump deliciousness).

One friend from Hilton Head Island said that while there were no Chick-Fil-A restaurants located there, he was “there in spirit.”  Meanwhile another friend from Lexington, S.C. said that the Chick-Fil-A in her neck of the woods “has traffic backed up on (U.S.) 378.”

Talk about a movement …

Not everybody was smiling, though.

“The real people suffering here are people like me who don’t care who you marry but eat at Chick-Fil-A like 3 times a week,” Columbia, S.C. resident Jake Broom wrote on his Facebook page. “Now I’ve got to go some place else because all these pretentious people are trying to out-conservative one another at my usual lunch spot. Believe what you want, but how about prove your point at Burger King next time?”

Ha!

Another friend said that while she supports free speech, “I went to Zaxby’s today because in my opinion it is far better than Chick-Fil-A.”

Viva la marketplace, people.  Despite government’s best efforts to kill free enterprise and free expression … they ain’t dead yet.
